Volunteering

Some of our Volunteer Essex volunteers tell us about their volunteer experience:

“It is a great opportunity to give something back to the community. I have thoroughly enjoyed my experience with the elders the last four months. Through helping others, I feel more confident in all sorts of ways. For example, when I chatted with those elders, I felt I have learned a lot from their life experiences, which made me cherish more what I have”. – Gracie, 16, volunteer at Age Concern Lunch Club

“I’m loving being a volunteer with the Weight Loss group. It’s helping my uni course so much – my classmates would have to pay for the type of training I’m getting through volunteering, I can’t believe it!” – Frankie, volunteer at My Weight Matters

I really appreciate your help! I did voluntary work for Chelmsford Festival , I had so much fun, had

a great time with a great team of volunteers,

a great leader and nice people and was kept busy, I enjoyed it so much. Thank you so much for your help” Penny, volunteer at Chelmsford festival

“I  found this role very fulfilling, challenging at times but very rewarding. Most of the patients were very kind and thankful for what we were doing and no matter how tough the shift had been I went home feeling like I had done my bit, played my part and given back to the community. Most surprising though is that on my very first shift I met another volunteer who I instantly clicked with and we have each found a new friend” – Lisa, Vaccination Volunteer

Thank you for speaking with me. I decided to accept the HMP role, I went for a visit and a chat and I was blown away and it’s right up my street! Something I feel I can really get stuck into and personally rewarding. Thank you so much for all your help you do such an amazing job.” – Darren, volunteer at HMP Chelmsford

“Because of FoodCycle, I’ve found I enjoy cooking and being in the kitchen environment and it’s something I’d love to do as proper paid work. Being at FoodCycle every week helps to show that I am reliable, can work with other people and that I am committed, so it’s really changed things for me. We have a natter and a laugh, and I like the teamwork and the people. We eat good food and catch up on what we’ve been doing in the week. Everyone is very kind and very inclusive.”

– Paul, volunteer at FoodCycle
