Southend Selection

20 September 2015

The Volunteer Centre in Southend has produced this months selection of volunteering opportunities highlighting just a few of the hundreds of volunteering roles available to the residents of Southend.

You can chose from:

Friendly Foster Carer
Would you like the chance to offer a loving and stable home to children living in Southend? This is a rewarding opportunity to become a foster carer for ages 0—18. Please be prepared for a lengthy application process, however the rewards are great! Plenty of support, and a training course will help to prepare you. If you have experience of children, and can offer a long-term commitment.

Fabulous Fundraisers
Are you a confident, friendly person who loves talking to people? A charity supporting RAF families needs your help with collecting donations, handing out stickers or badges and providing information about the charity in supermarkets and Southend Town Centre. If you’re a great organiser as well, perhaps you would like to be a Team Leader? These are two great roles for all good communicators and a chance to support the charity’s work

Leader of the Gang
If you are an enthusiastic people person, perhaps looking to gain experience with helping younger people, this is an interesting and rewarding challenge. This young adult (18-25 years old) carers group needs an assistant group leader to help run the group and organise and lead activities. If you’re friendly, patient and would love to help inspire these young people to achieve their aspirations

Rivercare Ranger
This is a great opportunity if you care about the local environment and would like to help to protect it. Regular events help clear litter and survey habitats around local rivers and beaches. The next event takes place on Two Tree Island on Sunday 27th September. If you have a few free hours and would love to get outdoors, understand more about the local environment and do your bit to protect it.

Would you like to help the Homeless ?
Would you like to do something to help the homeless but don’t know where to start? A local charity is looking for volunteers to help in their charity shops and you can find out more at an Volunteer Information Day on 21st September. You will have the opportunity to meet members of the team who will tell you about the great work they do and how you can help, and other volunteers will share their experiences. It’s a great chance to learn more
