The Essex Society for Family History are looking for volunteers to help preserve local history and heritage. The society aims are to promote and encourage the public study of British Family history, genealogy, heraldry, and local history with particular reference to Essex and to promote the preservation, and accessibility of archival material.
If you have an interest in local history or research then why not get involved as a volunteer helping to preserve information for generations to come.
One volunteering role on offer is that of Historical Documents transcriber, if you have good computer skills, patience and an eye for detail and accuracy then the society is looking for you to help transcribe and index records from images of original documents. Read more and apply here
Alternatively for people who prefer to get out and about there is a role supporting the society to transcribe and map details from gravestones and memorials. This information is easily lost through years of weathering and exposure and a committed team of volunteers have been working to visit churchyards and cemeteries across the county to capture and preserve information to add to the society’s ever growing resources.
