Gardening Pilot looks for volunteers

9 November 2015

In Maldon District a new project is being inspired by gardening to help people who are at risk of social isolation. Flowers (4)

The Good Garden project will use gardening as a focus for befriending. Volunteers will be paired with an older person and through conversation work with them to develop a bespoke planter for their garden that is based on plants and flowers that hold memories. Be it a favourite flower, a scent, colours, or even the name of a loved one most people have good memories associated with plants and nature and these can be a great starting point for getting to know someone and their life stories.

Provide, who are hosting the project in partnership with Maldon and District CVS,  are looking for volunteers to be befrienders for this pilot project.  The project will start small and focus on just ten individuals to make a difference with the hope that if successful it can grow to support more people.

The Volunteer role will include visiting an individual on a weekly basis and working on a memory board. This memory board will then inform plant selection and planting which the volunteer will help to set up and maintain.
