Monica Marsh, volunteers at Action for Family Carers in Maldon where she works in the office completing admin tasks and research for the adult carers team. Monica was fortunate enough to be asked to create a garden at Maldon Action for Family Carers where she has created a wonderful, peaceful environment filled with beautiful plants and a vegetable garden. Monica said that she is
“…very proud of creating a sensory garden for our clients, carers, staff and volunteers to enjoy.”
Monica came from a full time career, of 10 years, as a carer for her husband who suffered Dementia and Parkinson’s disease. After his sudden death and having no close family of her own, Monica jumped at the chance to Volunteer for such a good cause, especially having the opportunity to give something back to the charity that had supported and helped her.
“I want to help make a difference to the lives of others, help those without a voice hence my citizens advocate role. To feel valued and part of a team. To help me with my confidence and self esteem (I lost a lot of confidence during my caring years, due to isolation) to develop and use existing skills and knowledge that I have gained in my years as a carer to the benefit others.”
