Marc Balkham, from Epping Forest, is a Music Group Leader at his local youth club, where he runs twice-monthly music sessions for young adults with learning difficulties.
Marc began volunteering after being made redundant from his previous employment. This meant that Marc had the advantage of time on his hands to follow a route towards his real passion in life, music. Marc’s friend put him in touch with Voluntary Action Epping Forest (VAEF), and his voluntary career began.
Not only has Marc made an impact on the young adults that he creates music with, but Marc has now been able to join the team at VAEF as the TimeBank Co-ordinator, whilst still continuing his voluntary positions.
“I would say that volunteering with VAEF has opened up a whole new life to me in terms of my actual volunteering, securing related employment and developing a freelance career as a Music Workshop Leader.”
