Sailship TLL is a registered charity, providing work skills training/ enterprise, Life Skills learning and therapy in the following areas:
• Green Care - Social and Therapeutic Horticulture (STH)
• Kitchen Crafts
• Cottage Industry crafts
We support adults aged 18+ (no upper age limit) who have a learning disability, physical disability, or mental health support need. Also young people from local special schools may join us during the school holidays.
We are constantly developing our gardens - both commercial and sensory. Social and Therapeutic Horticulture (STH) offers well-being and gardening therapy with 43 placements presently on site.
The Commercial Horticulture Enterprise also produces seasonal hanging baskets and planters etc and offers work skills training via ASDAN Employability Courses.
During the Covid-19 pandemic, Sailship has offered an Outreach Service to Trainees at home and also to the local community, including 4 Care Homes. We have continued this service, 'Grow a friendship with Sailship' even after re-opening our site, offering gardening, craft activity and kitchen task packs to recipients.
Currently we are creating a series of pathways to help our Trainees and local community become part of Sailship via our 'Get Active with Sailship' programme.
We also run a registered small manufacturing business - 'Sailship Preserves'. This is a small kitchen craft enterprise that produces jams/chutneys/pickles etc utilising the home grown produce from our Commercial Horticulture Enterprise. These are then labelled, packaged and sold.
The Cottage Industry Crafting Enterprise offers willow weaving, woodwork and conservation crafts (bird box building/kit making, hedgehog homes, bat boxes etc).
In 2021, we hope to fully develop our Conservation area - which encompasses a small wooded copse, a wildflower meadow, a wildlife pond and a foxes den! This, along with many varieties of wild birds, frogs, newts and bees (we have our own apiary) is a very exciting project to get involved with.
Also for 2021, we are renovating a static caravan to create a new Sailship training experience for our Trainees, which will also include members of our community and local Care Homes. The Sailship Café will serve guests in its own gardens and of course, in its newly refurbished Kitchen Café.
