Home-Start Harwich has been delivering a service in Harwich and the surrounding rural area for 20 years. We are currently funded by The Big Lottery. We offer non judgemental, one-to-tone befriending support within the family home, also running a support group and offering transport with emotional support to any appointments that the parent is worried about attending on their own e.g. Counselling, Solicitors, CAB, doctors or hospital appointments.
Our mission statement is 'Every parent deserves the right to receive the support they need to give their children the best possible start in life'.
Support is given by Home-Start volunteers who are extensively trained by the scheme. For families with a higher tier level of need we have Home-Start Outreach workers.
Families often have complex issues with diverse needs some of which could be drepression, anxiety, panic attacks, isolation, debt, disability, additional needs, chronic illness, children's behaviour problems, bereavement, domestic violence and emotional abuse.
Home-Start Harwich ensures that the service is provided in such a way as to allow equal opportunities and access by all parts of the community and that no discrimination occurs.
All staff and volunteers undergo enhanced DBS checks and have continuous updates on Safeguarding or any other relevant training.
We are 'informally professional' and often find we are the only support agency accepted by hard to reach families.
