Bringing cancer treatment closer to home.
Hope for Tomorrow is a national cancer charity dedicated to bringing cancer treatment closer to patients’ homes. Our Mobile Chemotherapy Units effectively reduce the long distances of travel and waiting times for treatment that patients often endure, and also help them to avoid the stresses and strains of busy Oncology Centres.
The Hope for Tomorrow Mobile Chemotherapy Unit in Essex is based at the hospital in Colchester and currently travels out to Halstead, Tiptree, Stanway and Clacton each week to take NHS chemotherapy treatment closer to the homes of cancer patients and their families and carers.
The MCCU was launched in partnership with Colchester General Hospital in 2016 and is named ‘Maureen’ in memory of a nurse who was part of the initial project team and later a cancer patient and dedicated Hope for Tomorrow supporter. It costs a minimum of £15,000 per year to keep the wheels turning. We receive no government or statutory funding and therefore rely on the support of the local community to keep it on the road.
