Youth workers 19+

To support youth workers during the delivery of services by making contact and establishing relationships with young people. Encouraging and enabling young people to participate in a range of personally challenging activities.

Key tasks:

As part of the team involve young people in the decision-making processes whereby individuals and groups take on responsibilities for themselves and others in their project and the wider community.

Negotiate with young people on their involvement in the programme including planning, implementation and evaluation.

To adhere to the Safeguarding Procedures, ensuring concerns are reported correctly.

To participate in the supervision process, to take personal responsibility for the identification of learning and development opportunities and reflect on training needs for discussion with the line manager.

To comply with individual responsibilities in accordance with role for health and safety in the workplace and to take all necessary steps to provide a safe and healthy environment for staff, service users and general public.

To ensure that all tasks carried out are in accordance with the Essex County Council Equal Opportunities Policy and Practice.

Skills

A Youth Work qualification or be prepared to undertake relevant JNC recognised qualification (introduction to youth work)

Ability to be part of the team to involve young people in the decision-making processes whereby individuals and groups take on responsibilities for themselves and others in their project and the wider community

Ability to build relationships and relate well to young people

Abillity to motivate young people and facilitate young peoples learning

Commitment to challenging prejudice and ignorance

Ability to develop work with young people to achieve planned outcomes

Numerate and literate
