Young Leaders are 14 to 17 year old volunteers, they also become youth members to the organisation so have the chance to experience Scouting first hand if they choose to. Young Leaders assist the Section Leaders and Assistant Section Leaders in delivering the programme to young people in Scouting.
What client groups will volunteers be working with?
Young people, Assistant Leaders, Section Assistants, other Section Leaders within the Group, and Group Scout Leader primarily.
There are three youth Sections the Volunteer can choose to work with:
* Beaver Scouts: 6-8 years old
* Cub Scouts: 8-10 and a half years old
* Scouts : 10 and a half-14 years old
Various locations throughout the County in every District, therefore this will be discussed once we receive an interest from the volunteer.
Most volunteering is done in the evenings and weekends. Generally a Scout Section will meet one evening a week. Any day trips, or camps are in addition to this and arranged by the Section Leaders. Volunteering is flexible and programmes are planned jointly so if you are unable to commit to every week or certain events this should not be a barrier.

Skills
A Young Leader needs to have an interest in supporting younger youth Members in Scouting.
Minimum age for this role is 14 and maximum is 17 years old as if they were younger they would be in a Scouting Section and if they are older they would be an adult volunteer and require a DBS check.
The training modules of the Young Leaders Scheme will help you deal with many different aspects of leadership within Scouting. There are 11 modules in the Scheme. They are designed to be flexible and to encourage innovation and creative thinking. Module A - Prepare for take off! is a mandatory module that must be completed within three months of becoming a Young Leader. Once you have completed it, you'll get a Young Leader Badge. As part of the Young Leaders Scheme there are four missions to be completed alongside the 11 modules. These missions are designed to allow Young Leaders to put the learning from the training modules into practice. Completing them will help you gain confidence as you become an integral part of the leadership team in your section and Group.
Benefits: There are a number of advantages to joining the Young Leaders Scheme.
* It is a great way to start or continue to enjoy what Scouting has to offer by helping young people take part in activities and adventures.
* It will enable you to undertake the Duke of Edinburgh's Award programme.
* The scheme offers the chance to experience what it is like to be a leader in Scouting, so you will be more informed about your options when you turn 18.
* Much of the training can count as prior learning in the adult leader training scheme. Completing all elements of the Young Leaders Scheme can therefore help you gain your Wood Badge more quickly once you turn 18.
* The scheme requires you to show dedication to others and many other qualities that are attractive to employers.
* Young Leaders Scheme awards and training modules can be included on CVs and are recognised by many employers.
Young Leaders will have the opportunity to meet with other Young Leaders on a regular basis to social and discuss their volunteering with others their age and a Leader that is not part of the Group they actually volunteer for. They will also be included in any Group activities and various events are put on for Young Leaders in the County.
