This role involves supporting people with dementia within an activity group setting.
You will be part of a friendly team of volunteers overseen by the Group Coordinator. The role includes 1:1 support such as chatting with clients, helping them to gain as much out of the activities as possible.
In the morning the focus is on physical activities such as seated chair exercises and games, so a reasonable level of mobility would be helpful.
In the afternoons the focus is on cognitive stimulation such as puzzles, quizzes and mind stimulating games so more sedentary.
Other things you may be asked to help with could be refreshments or helping clients move around the hall. If you have any particular skills such a craft, music etc the group would be very happy to try and utilise them.
During this time Covid all volunteers are required to wear masks (these will be provided), practise hand hygiene and keep a distance from clients and each other. There may also be some light cleaning duties throughout the sessions.
The group currently meets in North Weald possibly returning to Epping in 2021.
