Volunteer Family Support Counsellor - Student Placement

Opportunity

We are looking for a student volunteer to join our counselling team to support clients who are the carers / family members of someone with a life-limiting condition or following bereavement. Applicants must be aware that on occasion you may be asked to support a client with a life-limiting condition.

Main responsibilities include:
• Providing individual counselling support as outlined
• Maintaining client records in line with Havens policies and procedures
• Undertaking mandatory training as required
• Undertaking any other duties that may be designated by your Volunteer Coordinator

The volunteer will have their own independent clinical supervision in place as per professional guidelines
Be required to attend regular 1:1 meetings with your Volunteer Coordinator
On occasion may be asked to support at Havens bereavement support groups and at events including our Thanksgiving and Remembrance Services

If you have experienced a recent bereavement the appropriateness of volunteering with us will be discussed with you at interview

This role will be split between Fair Havens Hospice, Westcliff and Little Havens Hospice, Thundersley.



Skills

Applications must:
• Be a student undertaking professional counselling training
• Be a member of a recognised professional body (BACP, NCS)
• Have an understanding of working from a foundation of empathy and unconditional positive regard
• Have dealt appropriately with your own experiences of grief and loss
