Essex Gardens Trust's objective is to share our love of gardens and landscapes, their history, their design, their making and the stories that surround them, and fostering that love in others. Essex Gardens Trust is looking for enthusiastic, open minded and forward thinking individuals to join the present small and enthusiastic Trustee team.
You should have a keen interest in gardens and landscapes and:
• Strategic vision
• Good, independent judgement and integrity
• An ability to think creatively
• The ability to work effectively as a member of a team
• The ability to research and ask probing questions.
All trustees have a duty of care for the charity including compliance with charity law and the governing document of the charity, and of prudence in its activities.
Essex Gardens Trust holds insurance cover for trustees.
We are appealing to working and retired professionals who could share their knowledge and experience with the board or to young professionals looking to gain experience in applying their knowledge and skills. We are a wholly volunteer run organisation.
The Management Committee, which
incorporates the Board of Trustees, meets bi-monthly with occasional additional
meetings when business requires them. In normal times meetings are held at Writtle
University College but are presently held via ZOOM.
Potential candidates will be invited to attend a meeting of the Management Committee
before committing themselves.
We seek to protect the precious green spaces of Essex, past and present, and influence their future by identifying them, recording their details and publishing that information freely and using our knowledge to provide informed comment on relevant plans for development.
In addition to our regular programme of talks and visits, subject to Covid restrictions, we are also planning a joint seminar with the Essex Records Office ‘Balancing the Challenges’ and have in train a funded project to identify and record historic gardens and landscapes in the district of Thurrock to join our existing inventories covering Braintree, Chelmsford and Uttlesford.
