Background:
Our recently completed Green Space at St John’s provides the local community with a beautiful oasis of green on the edge of central Chelmsford, complete with a quiet reflection garden, a storytelling corner, a wildflower meadow, an outdoor heritage trail and 3 large community planters.
The Role:
We are seeking some enthusiastic and self-motivated individuals to join our small team of Green Space Garden Volunteers and local organisations such as Mencap and Chelmsford College, who currently maintain the space. Volunteering hours are completely flexible can be done according to your own availability but we do require a regular commitment of minimum twice per month,particularly during the summer months.
We also welcome applications from local organisations and companies wishing to provide their
employees with a regular local volunteering opportunity.
Regular jobs that require carrying out in the Green Space are:
· Watering
· Clearing, weeding and general tidying
· Litter picking
· Maintenance of the community beds including planting, care and harvesting of vegetables and herbs as required
There are also ample opportunities to create new planting projects and coordinate additional partnerships as the space establishes over the next year or so.

Skills
No prior experience is necessary for the role but we would welcome applications from gardening enthusiasts and encourage those with horticultural knowledge to get stuck in and help us shape our beautiful new outdoor space!

Availability Details
Garden volunteering can be done on a completely flexible basis according to your availability. Gloves, garden tools, wheelbarrows and litter pickers can be borrowed during café hours or when the church building is open, but volunteers are expected to bring their own gloves and any necessary tools outside of opening hours. A water butt and watering cans are always available outside.
