We
are looking for Telephone Befrienders to phone an older person in their
community who is feeling lonely or isolated. Telephone Befrienders have a chat
with the older person once per week for companionship: this involves a call of
up to an hour a week so that a friendship can develop. The telephone calls
can be made from home, at a regular time each week if possible. The
Befriender can phone one or more people, depending on their availability.
A DBS certificate is required, this is arranged by Age Concern Southend
at no cost to the volunteer.
Skills
Good listening and communication skills are required.
