Essex Libraries are looking for volunteers aged 14 or over to help children with the Summer Reading Challenge. This year's theme is Mischief Makers. You’ll have fun and gain new skills - and it’s great for your CV!
We are looking for volunteers who can commit to a minimum of 18 hours from Saturday 14 July to Saturday 1 September 2018.
As a volunteer you will help library staff to:
• Join children to the Summer Reading Challenge
• Talk to children (mainly aged 4 to 11) about their books
• Hand out stickers and rewards.
Closing date for applications is Sunday 10 June 2018.
What skills and experience do you need?
A good team worker, able to work with library staff and other volunteers.
Reliable, well organised and calm under pressure.
Enthusiastic about encouraging children to read.
Able to communicate with customers of all ages including parents.
Able to talk to children about the books they have been reading.
Friendly and approachable.
Committed to helping libraries and our customers.

- DBS check required
For libraries on a shared site (South Woodham Ferrers, North Melbourne and Stock) a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check will be required if 16 or over.

Your placement library will invite you to a training session in July where you’ll be given a tour of the library and the opportunity to meet library staff and other volunteers.
- Ongoing support
We’ll send you a number of email updates during the summer with information about your role, details about the Summer Reading Challenge and links to training and resources. You’ll have a named Supervisor and there will be ongoing support from local library staff.
- Health and safety support
When: 14/07/2018 - 01/09/2018
A minimum of 18 hours (approximately 6 sessions) from Saturday 14 July to Saturday 1 September. Sessions generally last 3 hours. You’re welcome to complete more hours.
