Southend Young Carers Peer Support Group Volunteer

Carers First Southend are looking for carers / volunteers who can give a commitment of time to become a Peer Support Group volunteer to help run our monthly Young Carers Peer Support Groups in Southend on Sea. 

The age range of the groups is 5-11 yrs and 11-17yrs alternate weeks. Commitment of approximately 2 1/2 hours per group (groups will run weekly on a Wednesday 4-6.30pm) depending on volunteer’s availability.

These groups aim to reduce the social isolation experienced by young carers; provide opportunities to spend time with other young carers, share experiences, build positive peer networks, provide respite from their role and overall improve the wellbeing of young carers.

These groups will be themed around: • Social Engagement • Activities and Interests 

Duties: 

• Be involved with Carers First to promote the groups available to Carers. • Support the young carers attending the peer group in a professional and inclusive manner alongside the staff lead. • Communicate and listen in a non-judgmental and positive way with all Carers. • Ensure you keep confidentiality where appropriate with conversations. • Support in planning and organising group sessions.

Skills

• Experience of supporting young people is desirable but not essential.

 • Good listening skills 

• Good communication skills 

• Respectful of others 

• Non-judgemental 

• Shows compassion and empathy. 

• Trustworthy and reliable 

• Lots of Energy!
