Side by Side Telephone volunteer

The Side by Side telephone service provides people living with dementia with companionship and conversation. Through regular contact, people living with dementia will stay connected and better informed on how to access local services and activities.

What you’ll be doing:

· Telephoning people living with dementia on a regular basis, chatting with them about the things they are interested in and want to talk about. The number of people you telephone may vary.

· Assisting and supporting people living with dementia, giving advice, and signposting them to services to enable them to live well.

· Providing formal feedback to your role manager or lead volunteer.

· A role manager who will support you throughout your time volunteering with us.

· Training, support and guidance to enable you to carry out your role with confidence.

· Out of pocket expenses (e.g. travel) agreed before you start and in line with our policy.

· Being kept up-to-date with the relevant policies and procedures that apply to your role.

· You’ll have access to learning, development and engagement opportunities for volunteers.

What we need from you:

To ensure the safety and security of people living with dementia we ask for:

·Two references and proof of your identity.

· Essential learning to be complete before starting in your role to take about three and a half days - this will include e-learning modules.

· You will need to complete an enhanced without barred list DBS or Access NI check, in line with the legal requirements. A criminal record will not necessarily stop you being able to carry out this role.


This role will suit you if you:

· Want to support people living with dementia and enable them to feel connected.

· Are confident using the telephone, enjoy talking to people and are happy working alone.

· Have good verbal communication and exceptional listening skills.

· Are patient, organised, and able to agree and arrange dates/times of when to make calls.
