Session Volunteer – Baby Beginnings Group Supporter

To support staff in the provision of a warm welcoming friendly environment to support new parents and their Babies

Baby Beginnings offers new parents the opportunity to meet other new parents and receive advice and guidance about the development of their baby in the early days.  The group offers new parents the opportunity to socialise with other new parents and engage in discussions that will support them in the early days to recognise that other people may be experiencing the same feelings, emotions and anxietys that they may be feeling, to feel apart of their local community and reduce isolation.  It also enables parents to gain additional support that they may be in need of and provides staff withthe opportunity to recognise if a parent is suffereing from post-natel depression and in need of additional support

Help staff to set up the room at the beginning of the session with mats and treasure baskets, boards, and tidy up at the end.  Talking to the new mum's with babies and looking out for their wellbeing, reporting any concerns to staff. Provide a listening ear and signpost parents to other children's centre activities.  Complete the infant feeding BFI training to enable you to offer help and advice to parents. Help make the sessions an enjoyable experience for the families attending.

A full induction and training programme is provided for all volunteers, with support from staff and your volunteer co-ordinator throughout the time you volunteer for us. This is a great opportunity to meet new people, gain new skills, build confidence and become a valued member of the Barnardo's Children's Centre team.

Skills

An understanding of Babies and children's needs and an ability to relate to children and their families. Good communication and interpersonal skills and a willingness to work as part of a team. Reliable and willing to help and with an enthusiasm to support children and their parents.
