Secretary - Board of Trustees

The Museum of Power is a vibrant and growing accredited and industry respected registered charity whose mission is to protect industrial heritage for future generations and be a valued community asset recognised for a place for learning, the arts and social opportunities for both the public, members and approximately 50-60 volunteers who attend site each week.  It is located within a glorious Scheduled Monument building and fabulous grounds in Langford, just outside Maldon.

The Museum of Power are undertaking a restructure of the Board of Trustees and have a 'Secretary - Board of Trustees' opportunity to be part of the exciting team.

The main purpose of the role is to ensure the effective delivery of Board of Trustee meetings and support the Museum moving forward.

Roles and Responsibilities :

  • To ensure the effective delivery of corporate meetings
  • To make appropriate arrangements to support all corporate governance meetings
  • To establish the annual programme of meetings 
  • To maintain the archive of meeting papers and minutes 
  • To work with the Chairman – Board of Trustees and Museum Manager to ensure the Museum complies with statutory charity and company legal requirements
  • To ensure that accurate and up to date governance information is collated and Trustees informed as required
  • To work with the Trustees to identify and introduce any improvements to the governance process
  • To manage and assist with ad hoc governance projects as required
  • To undertake an annual review of these roles and responsibilities with the Chairman of the Board of Trustees to ensure a continuous improvement review is undertaken


Skills

  • Experience of having successfully undertaken minute taking and maintaining records in a committee environment
  • Effective interpersonal and communication skills
  • Excellent organisation skills
  • High level of integrity
  • Enjoyment of being part of a team
  • Proficient user of Microsoft Word, Excel, Powerpoint and Adobe Acrobat

Per Month: 1. Preparation for Board of Trustee meeting - approximately 4 hours 2. Attend Board of Trustees meeting - approximately 2 hours (these are currently held monthly but anticipated to reduce to 4 times per year from 2021) 3. Preparation/issue of meeting minutes - 1 hour 4. Gathering industry information regarding governance - approximately 2 hours
