parkrun is a free weekly timed 5km walk/run at 9am on Saturdays mornings worldwide. It is organised and run by volunteers. Thurrock parkrun is scheduled to commence with a test run on 26 September 2015. A core team of volunteers are required to be trained and ready to run event one. Training is provided on the day for all roles less Run Director and Results processing. Thurrock parkrun is linked to Timebanking.
The Run Director takes charge of the actual running of the event on a particular week. They have overall responsibility for event safety, will make pre-run announcement, start the run, and oversee proceedings during the run and at the finish. Most importantly, the Run Director decides whether the event should be cancelled or postponed or that an adjustment to the course is needed (because of bad weather or other circumstance). Such decisions will be taken with guidance from the other event organisers, but the Run Director has the final say. The Run Director must be fully conversant with every volunteer role and have practical experience of them all.
