Recycling Walking Equipment Volunteer

Overview:
Are you keen to help improve the environment and reduce waste?  ACE have a new initiative   aimed at reducing the wastage of low level walking aids (frames, crutches and walking sticks)       by recycling them for further use.

Main Duties:

·         Responsible for overseeing the collection of low level walking aids from the community dropping-off points (Clacton Hospital, Fryatt Hospital Harwich and the Mill Road Therapy Centre in Colchester)

·         Refurbishing – i.e., replacing ferrules (rubber ends)

·         Logging and recording equipment

·         Cleaning and ensuring equipment is fit for re-use (protective gloves/aprons and all cleaning materials will be provided)

Liaising with ACE Estates Team with any concerns regarding the recycling bins 

Skills

Requirements:

·         A minimum commitment of 3 hours a week for a 6 month period is required

·         To complete all relevant checks before commencing the role including references and DBS

·         To complete mandatory training

·         To adhere to the Volunteer Handbook

·         To maintain communication with the line manager and report any concerns immediately

·         Health and safety procedures must be adhered to at all times

·         To be confident, patient and to have excellent communication skills

·         Good attention to detail

·         ‘Can-do’, flexible attitude

·         To adhere to the data protection and confidentiality agreement

·         To keep up to date with local services, support signposting and assisting patients to access the correct support

·         Travel between the locations could be required, therefore current driving licence would be beneficial - reasonable out of pocket expenses will be reimbursed

·         Please note that the amount of equipment to be dealt with on any occasion is likely to vary considerably so other volunteer roles may also be of interest to complement this role.
