Independent Visitor

Independent Visitor:

·         To visit, advise and befriend a young person who is in residential care or in a foster home, secure accommodation, or a young offenders’ institution.

·         To enable a young person to have contact with someone who is independent of the Social Services Department, education system and health department.

·         To provide an “adult friend” for a young person who has little or no contact with members of his/her own family.

Full training provided.

Experience with young people not ‘necessary’ though it’s a plus!

Driving license not necessary though it’s a plus!

Availability Details

Being an Independent Visitor is a long term commitment (2 years minimum). IVs visit the young person they are matched with once a month. However, consistency is important and IVs are expected to remain in touch with the young person in between visits.
