A Great Volunteering Opportunity! – Helping the Homeless
Make a real difference saving lives and volunteer to help the most vulnerable homeless people in Colchester. Colchester Rough Sleepers Group have convereted a double decker touring coach into accommodation for up to 8 rough sleepers.
As we near our launch date we are looking for volunteers who would be able to support our Bus Guests with various tasks and to be a friend and someone they can trust. There will be over night shifts to be filled which will come with a minimal wage appropriate for a sleeping role.
You will be
Working as part of the CRSG team.
Helping to make a friendly, welcoming environment.
Service user support where appropriate.
Attending volunteer meetings & Training
With everyone's contribution
we will be able to steer vulnerable people away from the path of homelessness
into housing and beyond.
No specific qualifications or experience are needed.
Volunteers need to be open minded, sincere and non-judgemental in their approach to people. Able to demonstrate excellent interpersonal skills, and adopt a constructive approach at all times.
To be empathic.
Be able to lead a balanced lifestyle
To be able to maintain strong boundaries.
To respect the confidentiality of the guests and other volunteers.
Not to express any views or use any language which is racist, sexist, homophobic or discriminatory. To not be aggressive or violent at any time.
To work as part of a team.
An ability to accept guidance and support from the CRSG project manager and other staff.
Personal experience of substance abuse or homelessness may be an asset to volunteering.
If you have been in recovery from drug or alcohol dependency for more than six months, your application will be considered on an individual basis.
People currently receiving treatment for drug or alcohol dependency may not be considered at this time.
