Home Visitors and Drivers To Help People With Visual Impairment

Support 4 Sight's Home Visitors will be trained to visit visually impaired people, to demonstrate specialist equipment and provide information to help make their lives easier.

Training is available for volunteers externally by Essex Police and Essex Fire Service on safety in the home; Social Services on how to conduct home visiting and guiding and assisting the visually impaired. In house training is offered on a wide range of specialist equipment.

You will be part of a team of volunteers who work in pairs to carry out visits throughout Uttlesford on a rota basis.

Volunteers are especially needed throughout the Uttlesford District, and also in Braintree and surrounding areas.

Drivers and non-drivers are both needed.

Volunteers are needed who can advise, give information and support, demonstrate, explain and encourage the use of visual aids.

Volunteers areas of interest should encompass 'Visual Impairment/Disability mainly within the elderly community'.


An ability to communicate with people in a relaxed way.

An understanding of the issues relating to visual impairment is an advantage but not essential.
