Are you able to support children and families in Essex?
Our Volunteers know how tough parenting can be and they don’t want anyone to go through this alone.
Your offer of time and support as a volunteer can mean the world to a family. Becoming a parent, whether it's the first or the fourth time, can be an isolating experience. There are so many unspoken pressures that we all need help with from time to time.
As a professionally trained volunteer you will make a long lasting difference to families who need a helping hand. The benefit to children is long-term: reducing the risk of problems escalating in the future to ensure they have a happy and secure family life.
As a Home Visiting Volunteer you will offer support to parents and children in their own homes for 2-3 hours a week, by arrangement with the family.
This vital befriending and practical role is the core of the Home-Start Essex service. If you enjoy supporting people in a practical way, this is the role for you.
You will have experience of being a parent or have appropriate experience of working with families and children and must be prepared to undertake the Home-Start preparation training course. You'll be positive and non-judgemental and able to demonstrate a sensitive and caring attitude to others. You must have a clear understanding of confidentiality, with good communication and listening skills and be able to work as part of a team.
Every Home Visiting Volunteer completes our Comprehensive Preparation Course before they are matched with a family.
This hugely popular training will equip you with the skills and knowledge needed to help a family.
Home-Start Essex's next Preparation Course will run online for a period of 8 weeks. Each session should last just over 2 hours which takes into account a 15 minute break half way through. These sessions will be held on a Thursdays, running from 17th September through to the 12th November excluding the half-term (29th October). There is also likely to be a requirement for some home-reading in between the sessions.
