Home Visiting Volunteer

Opportunity

Following an initial training course, volunteers will be matched to a family with young children who are experiencing stress or difficult circumstances. The volunteer needs to have 3 hours a week spare to visit at a mutually convenient time and offer friendship, encouragement and practical help. Volunteers can play with children and support parent(s) with all aspects of parenting, helping the family to get out of the house and access their local community. With support from Home-Start staff, volunteers can help sign-post parents and support them at appointments to help their lives move on in a positive direction. Home-Start Essex’s approach is very personal and friendly and this often reassures parents that what they are going though is not unusual and that they are not alone.

Skills

You need to have parenting experience, be approachable and able to identify with parents who need support.
You will receive full training on one of our preparation courses; this course is run over 10 weekly sessions. You will be subject to an enhanced DBS check before being carefully matched with a family where your own set of experiences and skills can help the most. The next training is planned to start in February 2018.

Location: Normally it will be the family home however, sometimes it may be going out into the community with a family.
