Help at Home Volunteer

The aim of EACH Help at Home volunteer service is to link a caring individual to a family to provide practical support in the family’s home. The service is needed because caring for a child with complex care needs or a serious illness can be physically and emotionally draining, taking a huge amount of time – which is more precious than anything to families.

Our Help at Home volunteers go into the homes of our families who need a little helping hand with daily chores such as cleaning, gardening or doing activities with siblings. Some volunteers provide regular support and visit a family for 2-3 hours a week whilst others help out once a month. Some families need help only occasionally with things like moving house or decorating a room or with a one-off job that would just never get done otherwise. The type of help needed will always vary depending on each family’s needs. Whatever your availability please do let us know if you are able to help, we would love to hear from you.

Our volunteers should be non-judgemental, kind, reliable and helpful. Our volunteers just need time to give and practical skills to hand! Any or all of the following:

•        Cleaning, including vacuuming, dusting, washing & ironing

•        Gardening

•        Shopping, including collecting prescriptions

•        Cooking, such as preparing meals and snacks

•        Looking after pets, e.g. dog walking

•        Practical support for siblings, e.g. accompanying them to play activities, helping them with homework

•        Decorating or house moving

•        Other skills welcomed!
