Group Support Volunteer - Information Hub Braintree

We are looking for volunteers to support our Information Hub in Braintree.

Volunteers are needed to help at the Information Hub for all or part of the session from 10.00 am -  1.00 pm (plus setting up and clearing away time) every time the Hub meets. Our Information Hubs give people an opportunity to access information and speak to organisations who can offer advice and support. Refreshments are also available to help to create a relaxed and friendly atmosphere.

The role of the volunteer can include:

  • Helping set out the room in an agreed layout
  • Putting out signage 
  • Preparing and distributing simple refreshments, collecting in and washing items used
  • Welcoming and talking with people with dementia and carers of people with dementia
  • Supporting the group leader by encouraging participation
  • Tidying up the room after the session
  • Help to signpost people to information.

The impact you'll make.....

Information Hubs provide an opportunity for people with dementia, family members, carers and other people to talk about living well with dementia, ask questions of professionals and enjoy a cup of tea or coffee.

You will provide support to the group leader to enable people affected by dementia to access the information they need and to engage with other people in a welcoming and non-judgmental environment.


This role will suit you if you...

• Enjoy meeting new people

• Have good verbal communication skills especially face to face

• Know about, or are willing to learn about, dementia and its impact on people

• Recognise the importance of confidentiality and can show this in practice

• Are prepared to complete induction into the role, necessary training and attend future support meetings

• No specific qualifications or experience are needed, however volunteers must feel comfortable with people and be able to empathise with them
