Group Leader / Knitter

Opportunity

Do you enjoy being with people? Do you have a talent for organising? Do you like to knit and/or crochet?

We need someone to play an essential role in a busy, merry little group of keen knitters here at Colchester Hospital.
The CHUFT Blanketeers are a newly formed group who have come together to chat, drink tea and knit/ crochet blankets that are given to patients nearing the end of terminal illnesses.
While in hospital these patients have these blankets to make their environment less clinical and more homely. Visiting relatives know that they loved one is being cared for and comforted. After they pass, the blanket is gifted to the family as a keepsake and a token of kindness; we often spray it with the patient’s perfume or aftershave in the hope that it can bring their loved one some warmth & comfort in the difficult times ahead.

As a group leader you would be happy to come a little earlier each day to open up the room. You’d lay out tea and coffee; sort out needles, wool & patterns; arrange chairs and welcome everyone in. At the end of the session you’d tidy up, pack away and lock the room behind you.
You would keep a list of group members and be a point of contact for those who attend. You would work alongside Sara, a Cardiac Ward Sister who founded the group.

The group meets every other Saturday, 11am- 13.00pm at Colchester Hospital, Turner Road, Colchester, CO4 5JL.

Skills

You’ll need to be enthusiastic; well- organised and enjoy working in a team. You should be welcoming to new members and keen to work with Sarah to move the group forwards and encourage people to join in.
Some knowledge of knitting and/ or crocheting would be an advantage but the group welcomes people of all abilities and ages.
