What would I be doing?
You will be helping people prepare for, respond to and recover from emergencies. Every individual affected by an emergency will need different support from us to help them recover, below are some examples of what you might support with:
Helping communities prepare for extreme weather events such as flooding or snow storms
Providing practical support such as distributing clothing or food after flooding
Providing emotional support to people who have been evacuated due to a fire
Commitment: Volunteers must be able to commit to a minimum of 24 hours a month: Usually 2 x 12 hours plus attend a monthly Team Meeting usually held on 3rd Wednesday evening of the month
Skills
To apply for this role you must hold a full UK driving license and have access to a vehicle and be willing to drive a specially adapted British Red Cross Vehicle. You need to be able to reach Colchester Fire Station within 30 minutes.
Person Centered Approach. Flexible attitude and a willingness to respond to call outs, including unsocial hours. Volunteers provide emotional and practical support for people who are affected by a serious incident or an emergency such fire or flood allowing the emergency services to get on with the job.
