Tollesbury and Salcott Virley Parochial Church are looking for a new editor or editorial team who could produce their monthly parish magazine. This magazine has run for around 110 years and now, due to the retirement and move of the existing editor this opportunity has arisen. Sadly no one has yet come forward to take this active village post on.
Could this be you?
The volunteer will be responsible for accepting articles and information provided by locals and groups and combining them with some self written material to produce a magazine which in its current guise usually runs to around 80 A4 pages filled with words, photos and gossip.
There is an opportunity for this to be a team activity as different people could look after each aspect of the magazine. Some of the pages are repeated each month and advertising (usually booked for a year) will need to be organised. The commitment involves regular monthly deadlines to work to and produce the final digital copy to go to printers.
Over the years the magazine has gone from hand
written to manually typed and stencilled to what is now a highly respected
fully printed magazine distributed to around 600 readers a month.
The person or persons selected for this great task should have between them excellent IT skills, possess a PC or similar to collect and produce the work and the ability to form it together and produce a final document for printing. They must be good at planning, sticking to deadlines and have good communication skills to inspire and keep the contributors in line; perhaps the greatest asset would be a sense of humour to overcome the problems and pitfalls encountered along the way. Although it is a demanding task, there are surely persons who would relish the challenges.
The role would suit anyone young or old; they need not have a christian back ground but some knowledge of church procedures etc might be useful. The PCC members can train anyone!
The role can all be done from the comfort of your own home or office!
Local knowledge is necessary for this role.
