Domestic Abuse - General Maintenance

Next Chapter is a domestic abuse charity working across the areas of Tendring, Colchester, Maldon, Chelmsford, Braintree & Uttlesford. We provide free and confidential services to support people who are currently experiencing, or have previously experienced, domestic abuse. 

We are passionate about ensuring that every person has the opportunity to live their life free from domestic abuse 

As a General Maintenance Volunteer, you will help ensure that our refuge or support centre remains a safe, welcoming, and comfortable environment for the individuals and families we support. Your contribution will directly support survivors of domestic abuse by maintaining the quality and safety of our physical spaces.

Skills

Essential 

 • Practical experience or basic DIY/maintenance skills 

• A proactive, hands-on approach and willingness to help with various tasks 

• Reliable and able to work independently or as part of a team 

• Ability to work on own initiative 

• Friendly, welcoming manner 

• Good communication skills 

• Understanding of issues surrounding confidentiality and safeguarding 

• Working in compliance with policies and procedures 

• Non- judgmental 

• Practical problem-solving skills and ability to suggest options and alternatives 

• Sensitivity to persons of different educational, economic, cultural or racial backgrounds 

• Ability to maintain boundaries 

 • Willingness to undertaken relevant training 

• A good sense of humour
