Community Supermarket Assistant

Community Supermarkets are community-led initiatives which provide access to nutritious food for a fraction of what the same items would cost in a regular supermarket. They enable people, particularly those on low incomes, to stretch their budgets further each week, helping to prevent crisis situations from arising in household finances which can result in the need for households to access support from food banks.

We are looking for volunteers who can help us to set up this exciting new service. The role will include helping to set up "supermarket" sessions in the community this will include setting up the space with tables to display the stock, taking payments and keeping simple inventory records, meeting and greeting shoppers and helping with refreshments and creating a welcoming environment.

This could also include driving the Community Supermarket Van. 

This role could include some manual handling so volunteers should have a reasonable level of fitness. 

Supermarket sessions currently run at the below times and venue 

• Southminster - fortnightly 10:30am - 12noon, Thursdays
• Burnham - fortnightly 2-3:30pm, Thursdays
• Heybridge -2nd and 4th Wednesday of the month, 10.30am - 12 noon
• White Colne - 1st and 3rd Monday of the month, 11am – 12.30pm
• Sible Hedingham - 2nd and 4th Friday of the month, 11am – 12.30pm
