Volunteers are needed to become members of community panels that meet with young people who commit crime. The Panels aim to ensure young people who have offended take responsibility for their behaviour, help to put things right for the victim and bring young people back into the community. The panel will deal with young people who have offended between the ages of 10 and 18.
Panel Member Responsibilities
To attend and facilitate panel meeting within the local area
To carry out the Community Panel Volunteer role as determined by the Youth Justice Board
To attend training and support meetings
To complete feedback forms
Previous convictions can affect your application however minor convictions and those that are spent will not exclude you from becoming a Panel member.
Volunteers are needed for various venues throughout Essex.
Volunteers sign up for 1 year voluntary commitment. Teams cover different days for their panels. All teams have panels in the day and early evening.
An interest in working with young people who have offended and victims to prevent re-offending.
A good character, personal integrity and discretion.
A respect for different ethnic, culture and social backgrounds.
Effective and good communication skills, common sense and to be able to work with others.
5 week induction course run on Saturdays in Chelmsford
