Communications Manager

Ring20 Research and Support CIO is a small volunteer led charity which promotes research into this rare form of epilepsy as well as supporting families and individuals suffering from this rare disease. We are seeking a Communications Manager to join the team and lead the vitally important internal and external communications. The role encompasses regular communications to our members including updates on research projects, fund-raising events and the planned families conference. Our own growing team also need regular communications to keep everyone up to date. We are also involved in several international projects, in Europe and the USA, which will require communications with other agencies and clinicians.

The role

Financial position and future goals

Ring20 is a small charity with a current income of £20,000 for core funding. We are seeking to move to our next stage of development in order to improve diagnostics and treatment of the condition and therefore need to secure additional funding.

Key responsibilities 

We are seeking a Communications Manager to lead our small comms team. We have a media marketing apprentice and volunteer with social media experience who would benefit from an experienced individual to lead and manage the team who are responsible for regular member/supporter communications (eNEWs/newsletters), social media updates, media/press releases.

·         The volunteer will ideally work from home using their own personal computer; they will be in regular contact with our CEO, our volunteer Operations Manager, as well as the Trustees and other team members.

·         The Communications Manager should have a minimum of 2 years’ experience in a similar role and a track record of appropriate success.

·         The Communications Manager will have operating autonomy in the role and help develop strategy including the potential to look at innovative ways to exploit digital communications to the benefit of the charity.

·         This is an ongoing role with a minimum time commitment of four days per month, subject to discussion.

The role is important to the next stage of the charity’s development in providing hope to those with this rare epileptic condition by promoting research into the diagnostics and treatments for this condition.

A good Communications Manager would provide hope for the future. They will help the charity to continue supporting its current client patient base, increase the numbers we reach globally and support the securing of funds for vital research.

Person description

Well-qualified candidates will have experience of social media, general communications tools and experience of dealing with media/press releases and a reasonable track record of success. Good writing skills, strong verbal communication and the ability to interact at management level are other key qualifications. An interest in the promotion of medical advancement and helping those in need would be an advantage.
