Children’s activity support – Messy Play

To support delivery of a variety of messy play activities for children aged 0-5 years.

This role would suit a person who wants to support and interact with families and children in a group setting.

The aim of this group is to enable and empower families to support their child’s development through play.


Provide regular appropriate support to staff in the group/session. 

Assist the staff with setting out resources and activities.

Role model interacting with children to support their development, i.e. asking children questions about what they are doing to encourage their critical thinking.

Provide a listening ear to parents (referring to staff where necessary).

Ensure that new families feel included and explain details of the group/session routine and facilities.

Join in with songs and story-time as required.

Clean and tidy away resources at the end of the session.

Be aware of, and promote other groups and support services available within the locality.

Additionally, the staff member may involve the volunteer in some aspects of planning and evaluating the session.

Any other tasks as agreed by the staff and volunteer
