Are you interested in a hands-on approach to history? Would you like to increase access to museum collections?
We’re looking for enthusiastic people to run our object handling table throughout the year.
This popular table allows visitors of all ages to interact with the collections.
The role involves talking with the public, revealing the history of the objects and how they tie in with the collections on display. Visitors, especially children, love the opportunity to handle the artefacts and many of the adults have memories to share. This opportunity would be great for those wishing to get more ‘hands-on’ with the collections, create a fun learning environment, and for those looking to get applied experience of working within a museum or gallery.
We will provide you with all the training, tools and knowledge you need. The handling collection comes with notes on each object which will be introduced at induction and available in digital form to take home.
We need you to be:
- Enthusiastic, cheerful and keen to engage with the public
- Have good communication and speaking skills
- Be able to relate to people of different ages, backgrounds and cultures
- Be happy to work independently when required, and as part of a team
- Reliable and trustworthy
- Data Protection policy
- DBS check required
- Equal opportunities policy
- Expenses reimbursed
- Health and Safety Policy
- Ongoing support
- Suitable for under 18s
- Training provided

- Written role description
