If so we are looking for passionate, empathetic, reliable and approachable Volunteer Mentors to support vulnerable children, young people and their families. This is a fantastic opportunity for someone who would like to offer their experience, gain new skills, meet new people, be part of a team and give something back to their community. Full training and support will be provided. Flexible hours to suit you.

A Volunteer Mentor…….

• Builds trusting relationships maintaining clear professional boundaries.
• Empowers individuals referred into the service to lead positive, happy, and healthy lives.
• Provides support to service users enabling them to make positive lifestyle choices and feel connected within their community.
• Works with the service users responsibly, encouraging them to find solutions to their own challenges and difficulties.
• Enables service users to recognise their own on-going achievements thereby building up self-confidence and their ability to be more independent.
• Is supportive of the more vulnerable, isolated, and lonely families, or those who are having difficulties coping; helping them to access further help and support where necessary.
• Will support service users to become involved in activities in the local community that might be useful to them, assisting them to take “the first step” if necessary.
• Is tolerant and appreciative of equality & diversity.
• Regularly reflects on their own practice and is open to development

Becoming a Volunteer Mentor is easy and very rewarding!

CAVS Essex Children & Young People’s Service will ensure the following:-

 Provision of adequate training, induction and ongoing support for the role
 Obtain emergency contact details for Volunteers
 Follow up any issues or concerns raised by our Volunteers
 Provision of expenses as necessary
 That all necessary equipment is supplied for the Volunteer
 Inform the Volunteer of any planned changes
 Liaise regularly with the Volunteer
 Provide regular supervisions for Volunteer
 Ensure all Volunteers undergo an enhanced DBS check
 Regular contact and support from your local designated coordinator covering South, Mid, North and West Essex

Skills

All we ask of our volunteers is that they should:

• Value children and young people and recognise the positive contribution they make to society
• Have a positive attitude to working with people of any gender, family status, sexual identity, from any ethnic origin, culture or religion, or who may have a disability
• Demonstrate a sensitive and caring attitude towards others, having a non-judgemental attitude
• Be reliable and committed
• Be willing to develop good communication skills and ability to listen well
• Have a warm and open personality and a good sense of humour
• Be organised and prepared to keep accurate records as required by the service
• Be open to ongoing one-to-one and/or group support and relevant training sessions
