Casualty Bureau Call Taker

In the event of a major disaster or other serious incident, there is usually a large public response enquiring about friends or relatives possibly involved in the incident. A Casualty/Information Bureau is normally established at Essex Police HQ to handle those calls.

Essex Police have staff trained in all roles but are seeking to recruit additional volunteer Police staff who are interested in performing the role of Incident Contact Centre Operator (Call Taker). This will involve taking calls from members of the public reporting people missing or from self-reporting casualties. We also active the Bureau for Major Crime appeals to gather information from the public.


Telephone skills and keyboard typing would be an advantage but training can be given.

Must be a resident in the UK for 3 years.

Please note that the vetting and screening process for this role is lengthy and that applications can sometimes take as long as 12 months to complete.
