Business Development Trustee

Citizens Advice Tendring, like most other charities in the present financial climate, is finding income generation a challenge. Although we are financially sound, we need to produce plans for growth and development to ensure our future. We are looking for someone who can explore various avenues of funding and can put a convincing case to potential funders. 

We envisage that the business development trustee will play and entrepreneurial role within the trustee board, looking for funding opportunities and seeking to make connections between Citizens Advice Tendring and other public, private and charitable organisations. 

Main Tasks:

- to help the Board in developing a fundraising and income generation strategy and action plan

- to produce a comprehensive picture of possible sources of income and to prioritise and develop ways in which to secure funding

- to oversee ideas and areas for corporate and business support to Citizens Advice Tendring

-  to develop contact with businesses, companies and grant giving organisations to assist fundraising and income generation 

- to identify proposals for business and company partnerships in conjunction with senior staff 

- build and maintain good working relationships with funders and partners

- to be an active champion of Citizens Advice Tendring


Skills

- a full understanding of business and companies and how they support charitable activities

- comprehensive knowledge of sponsorship and other resource generation opportunities and business development

- an understanding on the challenges facing small UK charities in making links with donors, businesses and companies

- experience and knowledge of corporate and business partnerships with charities

- commitment and availability to attend trustee board meetings

- ability to contribute to the process on setting objectives and managing performances

- effective written and verbal communication skills and willingness to participate actively in discussion 

- evidence of the ability to apply strategic thinking

- knowledge of local needs and resources

- commitment to the aims and principles of equal opportunities and independence of Citizens Advice

- ability to understand and accept their responsibilities and liabilities as trustees and employers
