The Royal Gunpowder Mills is a 170 acre site protected for its’ industrial heritage and natural history. Almost the whole site is classed as a Scheduled Ancient Monument (SAM) and is designated a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI).
We open to the public to share the exhibitions and offer tours and activities. We run a schools programme that fits with the history of the site and the National Curriculum. We offer hire space and interesting environments for filming.
The charity’s aims are to protect, preserve and enhance the special aspects of the site and to share the story of the industrial and social history, the science and the nature.
This work involves a wide variety of tasks, and ranges from basic to skilled. There are varied tasks involved in looking after the 170 acre site, its buildings and exhibitions.
- Assist with clearing, cleaning, cutting foliage, repairs, decorating, setting up exhibitions and rooms for events, and help with projects. It is essential that we maintain this important historic site and make it possible for visitors to enjoy the walks, exhibitions, views and events in safety and comfort. Help with routine tasks or new projects and put your skills, time and energy to good use. We do not expect you to take on all the tasks listed, but if you think you can help with one or two we will be keen to hear from you.
