Reach Out for Mental Health (ROFMH) is a suicide prevention service supporting individuals living with suicidal thoughts. It offers individuals an opportunity to talk about what they’re going through. This could be recent events or things from the past. We know sometimes talking can be difficult, we also know it can really help. Our service is run by a small team of volunteers who are friendly, good listeners and genuinely want to make a positive difference to those going through a tough time.
A volunteer’s role is simple yet incredibly effective; to create a space for the individual to feel heard, value and understood. This then provides an environment for the individual to reflect on what they have discussed, how they feel and their options.
ROFMH need volunteers to operate our phone based befriending service. We ask for a commitment for 3 hours per week. You will support 3 clients on a weekly basis, over the phone for up to 12 weeks. This will be done from your own home. We provide the mobile phone and credit. You will also be required to attend monthly group clinical supervision.
We have two information sessions for anyone interested in this role. They will be held over Zoom on 8th June 10-11am & 10th June 7-8pm.
Please email us at firstname.lastname@example.org for a link to the information session you wish to attend.
The training will take place on 19th & 20th June 10am-3pm. This too will be over Zoom. Volunteers need to attend both training days.
No qualifications necessary but personal experience of mental health problems/ living with suicidal thoughts or supporting someone else will be an advantage.
