Be a Friend

Do you believe that every child and young person has a right to improve their life? A national charity is looking for volunteers who are able to commit 2—3 hours a month, long term, to meet and spend some time with a young person who is in care.  You will be asked to support the young person on an activity of their choice, whilst offering friendship. Crèche Support

A family centre in central Southend supporting families in need is looking for volunteers to provide support in a crèche provided for local vulnerable families.  You would be working with the centre co-ordinator caring and playing with groups of children. Volunteers do need to be working towards or qualified to a level 3 standard with a childcare qualification.

Independent Families

We are looking for volunteers to share their parenting experience with local families? You could help to organise mealtimes or support parents to ensure their children attend appointments.  By building up a relationship of trust you will help families become more independent.  No qualifications are necessary and full training will be provided, however you must be non-judgemental, a good listener and be prepared to make a commitment as this role needs consistency. Appropriate Adult

This volunteer role provides invaluable support for vulnerable adults and young people who find themselves in police custody. If you are responsible, can communicate with people from a variety of backgrounds and care about people receiving a fair judicial experience, you will appreciate this opportunity. You’ll support people, ensuring they understand the process and are treated fairly. It’s a challenging but very interesting and important role.  Read more and apply

Environmental Champion

Do you care passionately about the environment and conservation? If you’re confident, organised and a great communicator, we have a fantastic opportunity. You’ll be leading and promoting a series of environmental community events such as litter picking and wildlife surveying. It’s a great opportunity to make new friends, develop new skills and make a difference to beach and river environments across Essex.
