Volunteers’ Week 2015 is right around the corner, and there are lots of different events, activities and drop in sessions happening across Essex. Below are a variety of events and activities that are happening throughout the week, if you are a volunteer or are looking to volunteer, be sure to come along!
This year Chelmsford Volunteering Centre will be holding Volunteers’ Week events at their new shop (the old Jeans shop) which you can find at 22 Market Road, CM1 1LU. On Tuesday 2 June 2015 between 10am and 3pm there will be experienced knitters who are volunteering to help teach anyone to knit, all materials will be provided. To book your hour slot please call Pauline or Julie on 01245 250731 or email firstname.lastname@example.org. If you are looking to Volunteer come and meet Pauline on Wednesday 3 June, or Thursday 4 June between 10am and 3pm to have a look at the latest opportunities on offer in Chelmsford City. They will also have a day dedicated to Timebanking, which is volunteering with a twist; it’s a project which supports and encourages people to help each other and a great way to be part of your community by offering some of your spare time and skills to others. Come along to the shop at any time between 10am and 3pm to find out more with Julie on Friday 5 June.
Volunteer Centre Thurrock will be out and about at the Thurrock community hubs at the beginning of the week promoting volunteering and Timebanking and telling everyone about our wonderful one off summer events. We will be at:- The Chadwell St Mary Centre, Brentwood Road on RM16 4JP Monday 1 10am-1pm, The South Ockendon Hub, Derry Avenue RM15 5DX on Tuesday 2 10.30am-12.30pm, The Acorns Community Hub, Headon Hall, Stifford Clays RM16 5UE Wednesday 3 10.30am-12.30pm, Then on Friday we are thanking all the wonderful volunteers that have helped us at ngage events over the last year with a celebration event at The Beehive with tea and scones and certificates presented by the mayor.
The Volunteer Centre (SAVS) are holding a Beach event “Volunteering is for everyone” on Wednesday 3 June from 2pm-4pm at Uncle Tom’s Cabin, Shoebury Common Beach. Last years Volunteers Week Beach Event brought people of all ages and backgrounds together to take part in an afternoon of beach cleaning fun and activities. Volunteers learnt about many environmental concerns including seaweed identification and plastics. Groups from Aviva, the Alzheimers Organisation, the Supported Volunteering Project, Age Concern and St Thomas More High School enjoyed a litter pick and a complete environmental learning experience! During Volunteers’ Week Maldon and District CVS will be holding 3 drop-in sessions in Maldon Town Hall Foyer. At the drop-ins we will be welcoming members of the public and talking to them about volunteering and TimeBanking roles in the Maldon District.
There will be displays featuring a range of volunteering opportunities as well as general information on Maldon and District CVS projects. The sessions will be held on:
Monday 1 June – 11.30 am – 3 pm
Tuesday 2 June – 11 am to 3 pm
Thursday 4 June – 12 noon – 4 pm
Visitors will have the opportunity to register as a volunteer or Time Banker
