Join the Heart of Your Community: Become a Volunteer Retail Assistant with St Helena
Are you looking to make a meaningful impact in your community while gaining valuable experience? St Helena is seeking enthusiastic Volunteer Retail Assistants to support their charity shops across North Essex. This is a fantastic opportunity to contribute to a worthy cause, develop new skills, and connect with like-minded individuals.
Why Volunteer with St Helena?
St Helena Hospice is a Colchester based charity which provides specialist palliative and end of life care to local people facing incurable illness in north east Essex, supporting them, their families, friends and carers. Volunteers are integral to the running of St Helena Hospice. By volunteering, you can change the lives of patients, their families, and other people in the community who might need St Helena Hospice’s help.
What Does the Role Involve?
As a Volunteer Retail Assistant, you’ll engage in a variety of tasks that keep the shops running smoothly (Note – Not all the tasks apply to every shop and will be dependent on which shop; type of tasks required for that area and your level of experience) :
- Customer service
- Operating till & cash handling
- Signing customers up to Gift Aid scheme & inputting gift aid data if required
- Preparing donated goods for sale
- Ensuring recyclable goods are put in appropriate place
- Pricing as outlined by the shop manager
- Display and merchandising (may include transferring items from one display to another)
- Stock control
- Sorting donated goods (this may include lifting or moving moderately heavy items such as sacks
of donated clothes or boxes containing books in some areas) - Light cleaning duties and using an iron or steamer to press donated clothes
Who Can Volunteer?
They ask that all volunteers are sympathetic to and be able to project the philosophy, vision and values of St Helena. Some customer service, retail or volunteering experience would be desirable but not essential as full training and support will be given.
Flexible Opportunities Across Essex
With multiple shop locations, you can choose a convenient site and schedule that fits your lifestyle. Whether you can spare a few hours a week or more, your contribution will make a significant difference.
