Kara’s Story

I’ve been volunteering for Accuro* for over 2 years now and I can’t recommend it enough!

I have enjoyed it and learnt so much and feel that volunteering has allowed me to develop as a person whilst simultaneously helping to improve the quality of other people’s lives.

I found out about Accuro through a school visit and was instantly inspired to volunteer when I realised what a difference I could make to other people’s lives.  I have also had the opportunity to benefit from the skills and training on offer (useful when it comes to looking for future employment!)

At first I was nervous but was quickly put at ease when I realised how friendly and welcoming everyone was.  I’ve had so much fun volunteering with Accuro over the years and been involved in numerous activities, including trips to the beach, theme parks and much more.

It’s a heart-warming experience to be involved with the children and knowing that just by being there and interacting, you are bringing a smile to their face.  That feeling is something that I haven’t experienced anywhere else – the feeling that you are making a difference.

I have learnt so much about different types of disabilities and my personal development has come so far through this experience.  You can benefit from so many qualities and problem solving skills being part of a volunteering team which are hard to gain in other aspects of life.

I would definitely recommend giving volunteering a try – it’s fun and enjoyable and without doubt will change your life for the better!
