Independent Visitor Service

13 March 2019

Essex Independent Visitor Service (IV) is currently recruiting volunteers to support children in care across Essex.

The Independent Visitor Service is run by Essex County Council and matches young people in care with a volunteer who visits them once a month.

The visits are away from the home and can involve anything from a walk around the park or bowling to a restaurant visit and an outing to the cinema. All expenses are reimbursed within an agreed budget.

Volunteers are supported through regular supervision and on-going training. No experience is necessary, just the willingness to pledge a few hours a month at the weekend to one young person.

The service is looking for anyone over 18 who feels they have the time and commitment available to become an Independent Visitor.

Upcoming training:

  • Weekday training Tuesday 30th April and Thursday 2nd May 2019
  • Weekend training 4th May and Saturday 18th May 2019
  • Mixed Tuesday 30th April and Saturday 18th May 2019

NB: You must be available on both days.

This role is subject to DBS checks.
