Helping in your Local Community?
Big Community Sew
To help ensure that every person in every community in Britain has the face covering they need the Big Community Sew has been launched.
There are around six million sewing machines in homes across the UK and if every one of those machines can be used to make just a dozen face coverings that would be enough for every person in the UK.
Sewing is an intensely practical act of kindness and this campaign will build on the community efforts established during the pandemic.
Find out who in your community needs face coverings, and get making! For more information, how-to videos, patterns and guides go to:
These are difficult times for all of us but particularly difficult for those in high-risk groups such as the elderly and those with underlying health conditions.
Those who are shielding or who are self isolating often need help with accessing food and medicines but the isolation itself is hard to bear for many.
Many, many people have come forward to volunteer over the past weeks in many different ways, including collection and delivery of food and prescriptions and telephone befriending which is a lifeline for those who cannot get out at all.
Some areas have had so many people come forward that they are no longer recruiting for these roles.
